A First Aid Course for MRC members!

Here’s your chance to learn…or update…vital skills that can help make you confident to provide first aid when needed!

This nationally recognised First Aid course has successfully been presented to other rowing clubs. It is highly informative, teaches assessment & practical skills, increases participants’ confidence in providing first aid ….and is a load of fun!!

The course is tailored specifically towards members of the rowing community with relevant information & scenarios, and answers such questions as:

  • What chest pain needs medical intervention? Is it a muscle strain or a heart attack?
  • How do I use a defibrillator? Can I use it on a person who has drowned?
  • What sort of wound needs to be seen by a doctor? (How do I deal with Yarra River or Albert Park swan poo bacteria ?)
  • What can I do to help someone having an asthma attack in a boat?
  • Where should I inject an EpiPen? (By the way, what is an EpiPen?)
  • How do I help someone with an “overly” rapid heart rate? What is AF or SVT?
  • How can I best provide first aid to my fellow crew members?

The facilitator is Karen Pritchard, a Registered Nurse and accredited First Aid Trainer with a Registered Training Organisation. She, and her daughter, have also been keen rowers.
