John Murphy

194x-2021

John followed Graeme down to MRC after he started coxing in 1965. John was a competitive Bowside sweeper and later took on sculling, mostly in crew boats. John was a lightweight with good endurance and rowed in many MRC crews over a ten-year period in the 1960's and 1970's. He started at Novice level and worked his way through Maiden, Junior and Lightweight Maiden and Senior ranks, gravitating to Masters competition later on. His most recent races were as Cox of MRC Masters Eights in Head of the Yarra.

John was Hon. Treasurer of MRC at one time and had a Tub Scull named in his honour as a consequence.

In latter years, he really enjoyed riding with the Masters Men on their regular Saturday morning bike ride down to Rickett's Point for the obligatory coffee.
