Rowing at MRC

Melbourne Rowing Club is a competitive club. We aim to provide a friendly environment where the emphasis is clearly on improvement of fitness and skill in preparation for racing.

We have a variety of squads that you can join depending on your skill, age and training goals.

Coaching is conducted by volunteers, with the emphasis placed on crews currently in training for a particular race or season. We train in a variety of boats from single scull to coxed eight.

Who should attend

The squad structure is based on your ability to commit to training, both on water and on land, and is suitable for rowers over 18 years old who have past experience.

If you have previous experience, please contact the Club Organiser for more information.

Squad training

Throughout winter, training is less intense, though more serious rowers can also participate in prescribed cross-training to prevent injury, increase strength and fitness. Approaching the season, members are selected into training crews and finally into racing crews to maximise the club's overall performance. Competitive crews are selected to best utilise the club's resources and achieve success across Beginner, Novice, Intermediate and Senior categories.

Our training times are squad and crew based, as we cater for a vast range of occupations and commitments outside of rowing training. The times are usually arranged around the availability of the coach, and crew members work with the coach to ensure they are meeting their land and water training regime.
