MRC operate both a Womenâs and Menâs Masters Squad which provide a friendly, fun environment for developing and maintaining rowing fitness and skills in preparation for competitive rowing.
MRC Masters compete in various boat classes in Masters events at regattas. This includes Beginners, Novice and Open events, competing in age handicapped eights, fours, sculls and pairs. We always celebrate our performances and always have a great time, supported by family and friends.
Who should attend
To be an MRC Masters rower you need to be 27+ and have some experience in rowing, or have successfully completed the MRC Development Squad training program. You also need to be able to have fun whilst training with a team of like minded rowers, both in the gym and on the water.
The MRC Masters row all year round and train to compete in the major Rowing Victoria regattas including Melbourne Head and Head of the Yarra in November and the regattas leading up to and including the Australian Masters Championships and the TriState Masters in May/June. Training includes the option to attend a couple of weekend rowing camps during the year, which are designed to have fun and improve skills.
Masters Squad training
MRC Masters participate in a professionally managed development program which involves rowing 2 and 4 times per week depending on the time within the rowing season. We also do strength and fitness training 1 to 2 times per week, and participate in âteam buildingâ and social events to have fun and build strong friendships and team spirit.
Fees are payable for some training sessions depending on coxswains, coaching and number of rowers.
Training is scheduled around the availability of crew members, coaches, coxswains and boats. Various training sessions are available to enable juggling of career, children and the other commitments we all have to manage.
Does this sound like you? Do you want to get fit and have fun rowing, competing in regattas and training? Contact either the Master Womenâs Squad Coordinator, or Master Menâs Squad Coordinator.
